Habitat for Humanity Fundraising Reception

At the 2009 Association of Government Accountants' (AGA) Personal Development Conference (PDC) in New Orleans, Savantage Solutions hosted a fundraising reception to benefit the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH). By holding the reception, Savantage was able to raise both money and public awareness of NOAHH's mission throughout AGA's membership. With the generous donations from Savantage and attending AGA members, the benefit raised a total of over $10,000.

Habitat for Humanity is an organization that seeks to provide housing for homeless and impoverished families around the world. Habitat volunteers work alongside these families in need to physically build houses. After the mass destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, NOAHH has worked diligently to construct new housing for the citizens of the Crescent City.

At the benefit reception, guests bought Mardi Gras beads for a dollar a strand at the door, and many contributed as much as $20 outright. Savantage matched the total door contributions, beverage receipts, and the funds AGA raised for NOAHH during the conference. Savantage also donated $5,000 as a company to NOAHH for a grand total of more than $10,000. Additionally, Savantage provided transport to AGA volunteers to and from a NOAHH worksite for the AGA PDC's service day.

Musicians Village

A jazzy, flavorful band of musicians from "Musicians' Village" in New Orleans provided entertainment at the reception. Each band member is a member of the village, which was constructed and named by NOAHH after Hurricane Katrina. The leader of the band at the reception, Nat Franklin, resides in one of the first houses that AGA volunteers renovated three years ago. Musicians' Village was started by New Orleans natives Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis to establish a post-Katrina community for New Orleans musicians and to preserve the rich musical flavor of the city.

Savantage hopes that our fundraiser helps and raises awareness for a highly effective, hands-on, and interactive organization.
