Each year the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) hosts a raffle/door prize drawing for their annual AGA PDC Conference to raise money for their National Community Service Fund. One national charity is selected by voting attendees and a portion of the proceeds will benefit that charity while the remainder remains in the fund, which AGA National uses to match local chapter charity fundraisers and activities throughout the year.
During the 2010 conference, Savantage Solutions decided to issue a corporate challenge to help inspire other companies and conference attendees to also join us in supporting the AGA National Community Service Fund. We made a $7,500 donation as part of this challenge. Four charities were selected to receive the proceeds instead of just one as in previous years. These four outstanding charities are described below.
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eradicating cancer. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACS has 13 chartered Divisions and more than 3,400 local offices.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other serious diseases. It is ranked the No. 1 pediatric cancer hospital by Parents magazine and the No. 1 children's cancer hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
The HandsOn Network inspires, equips and mobilizes people to take action that changes the world. As the volunteer-focused arm of Points of Light Institute, HandsOn Network is the largest volunteer network in the nation and includes more than 250 HandsOn Action Centers in 16 countries.
Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) works to ensure a healthy environment by protecting wildlife and pristine places. The organization uses law, science and research, and the support of its 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's natural resources for generations to come.
The total amount raised for the fund was $8,000, with Savantage as the lead contributor. Our goal for issuing this challenge is to support the very important work AGA National Community Service Fund does each year and help provide financial support for these four important causes.
